PUSD Budget Challanges

Summer school and office hours
The PUSD District Offices will be closed on four Fridays this month--July 2, 16, 23, and 30. The office is open on July 9.

There will be no summer school classes, July 2, or Monday, July 5. Summer school will be in session the following week on Tuesday through Friday, July 6 - 9, and will go back to to the normal schedule the following week.

The City of Pleasanton has started a project to resurface Santa Rita Road. This may impact summer school traffic during drop-off and pick-up times. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for driving.
Information on immunizations for pre-teens
Families are encouraged to take time this summer to schedule a doctor visit for your pre-teen student and get your child immunized. The following vaccines are recommended by CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Although they are not required for school entry, they will add protection to your child’s health.

Meningococcal vaccine: All 11- and 12-year-olds should receive the vaccine for protection against meningitis and its complications.

Tdap vaccine: This is a booster for tetanus and diphtheria and offers protection against pertussis or “whooping cough.” “Whooping cough” is on the rise in the recent years, especially in Bay Area. Most children receive their last dose at age 5; however, this dose does not offer life-long protection.

Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine: It is recommended that all 11- and 12-year-old girls receive the HPV vaccine which protects against the most common types of cervical cancer.

Consider getting these immunizations, and give your child a healthy start in the fall!

If you need to find a vaccine clinic in Alameda County, please visit the Alameda County Public Health Department at www.acphd.org or call the Alameda County Immunization Assistance Project number at 510 267-3230. For more information on vaccines and immunizations, consult your health care provider or refer to CDC’s website at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules.

What is Safe Rides?
Safe Rides is a crew of teens (ages 15 to 21) and adults (over 25) that are providing service to the teens of our community by giving them a free, safe, confidential ride home on Friday or Saturday night from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Although our crew, sponsors and supporters do not condone underage drinking or the use of drugs, we recognize that our friends and families are being killed or injured under these circumstances and are taking action. Our crew is trained to handle driving passengers that are under the influence as well as other situations they may arise. Adults are always available as a resource to our crew. Please let your teens know, if they need a ride, to call Safe Rides at 416-6810. This is a Boy Scouts of America program that is being sponsored by Valley Care Hospital. We are in need of adult and teen volunteers, so if you or your teens are interested in being a part of the Safe Rides Crew, send an email to trivalleysaferides@live.coml. Safe Rides Saves Lives!

American Academy of Pediatrics, Suicide Assistance

Please be sensitive to the fact that suicide is a powerful issue that may lead students to question their own lives and may put students who are depressed at risk for suicide themselves. We need to work together to ensure that students in need get help. Click Here for full article

Even though this happened in another area -
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN HERE!
Our cross walk at the top of Bernal is a potential hazard. On my walk yesterday, I had to put my palm up to stop a car not realizing 2 students on bikes were on their way to Valley View School. He didn't stop in time; but the students were alert and didn't try to cross any further even though they had the right of way and were in the middle of the cross walk!!
